Teenagers do not experience relocation as an upgrade. They experience it as losing their people. In LA, the exact commute and parking situation can turn a good apartment into a bad daily life. Also listen to the person in the family who is least excited. They often see the problem everyone else is trying to ignore. I would still make the move, but I would prepare with more cash cushion, more patience, and fewer fantasies.
