My husband’s employer started his green card process before we decided to relocate, but the I-140 is still pending and the visa line for our category is hard to read. We have a job start date in Irvine for the fall and school enrollment for our two kids to plan around. For families who already moved while the paperwork was still running — did you time the lease and school registration around the approval stage, and would you do it differently?

Since posting this I’ve been digging into the visa line for our category — this visa bulletin explainer (https://www.o1eb1.com/en/eb1/bulletin) finally made the filing-date vs final-action-date split click for me. For those who already moved mid-process: did you time the move off the I-140 approval alone, or did you wait until your date was current? And did the kids’ school registration end up being the real deadline?
