Posting from Fremont, California. We may be heading to Cornelius, North Carolina, mostly because of downsizing from a larger home. On paper it makes sense, but I don’t want to make a clean spreadsheet decision and then create a messy family life. Specific question: Moving costs to Charlotte: what did families actually spend?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. We are trying to avoid choosing a house that looks great online but creates a bad routine. What did you only understand after living there for a few months?

Renting first is annoying, but it buys local knowledge.
