Posting from Brooklyn, New York. We may be heading to Cornelius, North Carolina, mostly because of fresh start after divorce. On paper it makes sense, but I don’t want to make a clean spreadsheet decision and then create a messy family life. Specific question: Moved for banking or healthcare job: how did family adjust?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. I want honest stories from people who already made the move, including what was hard and what they would do differently. What did you only understand after living there for a few months?

A weekend visit will not show this clearly. the move can be right and still feel hard. People miss grandparents, old friends, familiar food, walkability, routines, and the feeling of knowing how everything works. The practical complaints may be middle-school fit and Lake Norman commute, but loneliness is often the quieter problem. Most families felt better after routines formed. The first year is information, not always the final verdict.
