Has anyone moved from San Francisco, California to Murfreesboro, Tennessee and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Salary negotiation is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: Is Nashville still affordable for families?. This move is exciting on paper, but I can already tell the first few months may be messy. People keep mentioning traffic growth, healthcare job shifts, and music industry schedules. Which of those actually mattered most?

Local take from Murfreesboro, Tennessee: separate the monthly budget from the arrival budget. The monthly budget has housing, cars, childcare, utilities, insurance, and activities. The arrival budget has deposits, furniture, movers, repairs, hotel nights, and all the annoying things nobody posts on Instagram. In Nashville, allergies and traffic growth are the two categories I would not underestimate. A move can still be financially smart and still feel expensive during the first six months.
