Posting from Tucson, Arizona. We may be heading to Georgetown, Texas, mostly because of moving closer to adult children. On paper it makes sense, but I don’t want to make a clean spreadsheet decision and then create a messy family life. Specific question: Is Austin still weird?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. I want honest stories from people who already made the move, including what was hard and what they would do differently. What did you only understand after living there for a few months?

The boring details are the ones that decide whether the move works. the move can be right and still feel hard. People miss grandparents, old friends, familiar food, walkability, routines, and the feeling of knowing how everything works. The practical complaints may be cedar allergies and property taxes, but loneliness is often the quieter problem. Most families felt better after routines formed. The first year is information, not always the final verdict.
