Has anyone moved from Las Vegas, Nevada to Georgetown, Texas and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Salary negotiation is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: Is Austin still affordable for families?. One child is excited and the other is already upset, which makes every choice feel heavier. People keep mentioning remote work loneliness, changing city culture, and traffic near the Domain. Which of those actually mattered most?

Local take from Georgetown, Texas: separate the monthly budget from the arrival budget. The monthly budget has housing, cars, childcare, utilities, insurance, and activities. The arrival budget has deposits, furniture, movers, repairs, hotel nights, and all the annoying things nobody posts on Instagram. In Austin, property taxes and school district choices are the two categories I would not underestimate. A move can still be financially smart and still feel expensive during the first six months.
