I’m currently in Chicago, Illinois, and our family is considering Fort Mill, South Carolina. Short-term rental search is what started the conversation, but now every little detail feels connected: school timing, commute, budget, and whether the move will actually improve daily life. The question I keep coming back to is: Fort Mill state line: what should buyers understand?. One child is excited and the other is already upset, which makes every choice feel heavier. We are trying to avoid choosing a house that looks great online but creates a bad routine. Around Fort Mill, South Carolina, I keep hearing about two-car routines, middle-school fit, and banking job schedules. For people who have already made this kind of move, what would you look at before committing?

Former Minneapolis, Minnesota perspective: the house can be right and the location can still be wrong. People focus on square footage, kitchens, and price, but the first-year stress usually comes from middle-school fit, Lake Norman commute, setup costs, and commute or school logistics. Renting first is annoying, but it buys local knowledge. If buying immediately, confirm insurance, taxes, inspections, school boundaries, pet rules, and commute before you emotionally move into the house. Coming from Minneapolis, Minnesota, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds. That mixed feeling is normal.
