Posting from Hartford, Connecticut. We may be heading to Dallas, Texas, mostly because of fresh start after divorce. On paper it makes sense, but I don’t want to make a clean spreadsheet decision and then create a messy family life. Specific question: First summer in Dallas: what humbled you?. We may rent first, but school timing and lease timing are making the decision stressful. I want honest stories from people who already made the move, including what was hard and what they would do differently. What did you only understand after living there for a few months?

A weekend visit will not show this clearly. the move can be right and still feel hard. People miss grandparents, old friends, familiar food, walkability, routines, and the feeling of knowing how everything works. The practical complaints may be youth sports culture and long suburban drives, but loneliness is often the quieter problem. Most families felt better after routines formed. The first year is information, not always the final verdict.
