Has anyone moved from New Haven, Connecticut to Duluth, Georgia and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Healthcare setup is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: First 90 days after moving to Atlanta: what should we set up?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. People keep mentioning pollen, intown versus suburb trade-offs, and airport access. Which of those actually mattered most?

Local take from Duluth, Georgia: the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Doctors, utilities, school records, transportation, weather, pets, and routines take more energy than expected. Traffic patterns and neighborhood fit can become weekly annoyances if you choose poorly. Everything gets better once the family has a normal grocery store, doctor, school route, weekend habit, and a few familiar faces. Do not judge the whole move by the first month. The first month is mostly cardboard boxes and bad sleep. Coming from Seattle, Washington, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds. That mixed feeling is normal.

A weekend visit will not show this clearly. the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle.
