I’m currently in New Haven, Connecticut, and our family is considering Bee Cave, Texas. Remote work isolation is what started the conversation, but now every little detail feels connected: school timing, commute, budget, and whether the move will actually improve daily life. The question I keep coming back to is: Do families need two cars in Austin?. One child is excited and the other is already upset, which makes every choice feel heavier. We are trying to picture normal life after arrival: doctors, weather, utilities, errands, pets, and routines. Around Bee Cave, Texas, I keep hearing about summer heat, changing city culture, and remote work loneliness. For people who have already made this kind of move, what would you look at before committing?

Blunt answer: the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Doctors, utilities, school records, transportation, weather, pets, and routines take more energy than expected. Property taxes and traffic near the Domain can become weekly annoyances if you choose poorly. Everything gets better once the family has a normal grocery store, doctor, school route, weekend habit, and a few familiar faces. Do not judge the whole move by the first month. The first month is mostly cardboard boxes and bad sleep.
