We’re seriously looking at Bee Cave, Texas from Jersey City, New Jersey. The move started because of insurance and tax planning, but now my spouse and I are stuck on the practical details. Topic: Childcare and property taxes: what surprised newcomers?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. We are trying to understand the true monthly cost, not only rent or mortgage. I would love real answers from people who live nearby, not just the polished version from listing photos or relocation videos.

This sounds small until it becomes part of every week. separate the monthly budget from the arrival budget. The monthly budget has housing, cars, childcare, utilities, insurance, and activities. The arrival budget has deposits, furniture, movers, repairs, hotel nights, and all the annoying things nobody posts on Instagram. In Austin, school district choices and remote work loneliness are the two categories I would not underestimate. A move can still be financially smart and still feel expensive during the first six months.
