Has anyone moved from Princeton, New Jersey to Bellevue, Washington and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Budget reset after burnout is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: Can one income work in Bellevue or Kirkland?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. People keep mentioning Eastside commute, housing prices, and no AC in older homes. Which of those actually mattered most?

A move can still be financially smart and still feel expensive during the first six months. Coming from Fremont, California, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds. That mixed feeling is normal.
