Has anyone moved from Chicago, Illinois to Alpharetta, Georgia and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Budget reset after burnout is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: Can one income work in Alpharetta or Johns Creek?. This move is exciting on paper, but I can already tell the first few months may be messy. People keep mentioning school-zone differences, airport access, and commute direction. Which of those actually mattered most?

The arrival budget has deposits, furniture, movers, repairs, hotel nights, and all the annoying things nobody posts on Instagram. In Atlanta, airport access and tree maintenance are the two categories I would not underestimate. A move can still be financially smart and still feel expensive during the first six months. Coming from Fremont, California, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds. That mixed feeling is normal.
