Has anyone moved from Dallas, Texas to Redmond, Washington and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? People focus on square footage, kitchens, and price, but the first-year stress usually comes from tech work schedules, school pressure, setup costs, and commute or school logistics. Renting first is annoying, but it buys local knowledge. If buying immediately, confirm insurance, taxes, inspections, school boundaries, pet rules, and commute before you emotionally move into the house. Coming from Boise, Idaho, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds.
