Has anyone moved from Detroit, Michigan to Lakeway, Texas and felt surprised by the day-to-day reality? Transportation adjustment is our main reason, but I’m trying to separate the nice relocation idea from the actual weekday routine. I’m especially trying to understand this: Allergies, cedar fever, and Austin air?. We may rent first, but school timing and lease timing are making the decision stressful. People keep mentioning traffic near the Domain, remote work loneliness, and tech layoffs. Which of those actually mattered most?

Former Princeton, New Jersey perspective: the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Doctors, utilities, school records, transportation, weather, pets, and routines take more energy than expected. Remote work loneliness and school district choices can become weekly annoyances if you choose poorly. Everything gets better once the family has a normal grocery store, doctor, school route, weekend habit, and a few familiar faces. Do not judge the whole move by the first month. The first month is mostly cardboard boxes and bad sleep. Coming from Princeton, New Jersey, the comparison was never one clean upgrade or downgrade. Some things improved, some got harder, and different family members adjusted at different speeds. That mixed feeling is normal.

The boring details are the ones that decide whether the move works. the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Honestly, I would slow down and test the weekday version first. the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle.
