Posting from Arlington, Virginia. We may be heading to Davidson, North Carolina, mostly because of pet and utility setup. On paper it makes sense, but I don’t want to make a clean spreadsheet decision and then create a messy family life. Specific question: Airport access: does it matter where you live?. One of us will work hybrid, and the other may be remote at first, so weekday routine matters a lot. We are trying to picture normal life after arrival: doctors, weather, utilities, errands, pets, and routines. What did you only understand after living there for a few months?

The boring details are the ones that decide whether the move works. the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Doctors, utilities, school records, transportation, weather, pets, and routines take more energy than expected. Humidity and airport convenience can become weekly annoyances if you choose poorly. Everything gets better once the family has a normal grocery store, doctor, school route, weekend habit, and a few familiar faces. Do not judge the whole move by the first month. The first month is mostly cardboard boxes and bad sleep.

Honestly, I would slow down and test the weekday version first. the first few months are logistics, not lifestyle. Lake norman commute and airport convenience can become weekly annoyances if you choose poorly.
