We are relocating from Hyderabad, India to Sydney, New South Wales and trying to understand whether indian grandparents helped childcare but felt trapped during weekdays is something families really deal with after arrival. Online advice is either too positive or too vague. We have children, work schedules, budget limits, and no local support yet, so small mistakes could change daily life quickly. For people who already made this move, what did you learn after the first few months?

Loneliness can happen even in a friendly city. People may be kind but busy. We made friends through repeated places, not one-off events: school volunteering, sports, religious community, language class, dog walks, and the same cafe every week.

The first month is not real life. It is setup mode. You are learning transport, groceries, school messages, doctors, bills, weather, and social rules all at once. Do not judge the relocation while your brain is still translating every tiny routine. Small routines made the city feel personal: same bakery, same park, same school parent, same walking route. Home arrived slowly.

This made me feel less crazy. Month two was much harder than I expected.
