We are relocating from Seoul, South Korea to Melbourne, Victoria, and this issue keeps coming up for us: partner visa stress and feeling dependent in australia. Most guides make Melbourne sound easy, but family relocation feels more complicated. We have school concerns, budget limits, and no deep local support yet. For families who already moved, what did you learn after living it day to day?

Do not wait for an emergency to figure out healthcare, school contacts, phone setup, and local payment systems. Set up boring essentials first.

Prepare documents earlier than feels necessary. Passports, visas, birth certificates, marriage certificate, school records, immunization records, employment letters, rental documents, medical summaries, and digital copies. The first month is easier when documents are not scattered across email and luggage. Also ask your employer for very specific relocation support. “We help you settle in” can mean almost nothing unless someone walks you through banking, school, housing, and local ID steps.
