We are a Muslim family moving from Dubai to Melbourne. We want mosque access, halal food, school comfort, modest sports options, and a community where our children see families like ours. Melbourne seems diverse but very spread out. Where should we look?

I would not choose only by school reputation. Visit at pickup time if you can. You will see who is there, how families interact, whether the commute is realistic, and whether your child might feel comfortable. A school can look excellent online and still feel wrong for your family. Also ask about after-school care and holiday programs. That part can quietly make or break working-parent life.

For immigrant families, community access matters. It is not just restaurants and groceries. It is someone who understands your lunchbox, your grandparents, your language stress, and your child being between cultures. We underestimated how much that mattered during the first year.

This is exactly the kind of detail I wish people told us before we moved.
