We want to live in Madrid city, not suburbs, at least for the first year. We are comparing Retiro, Chamberi, Salamanca, and Arganzuela. We care about school commute, parks, walkability, noise, local feel, and not feeling trapped in an expat bubble. How would families compare these neighborhoods?

Retiro is wonderful if your family uses the park. That was our sanity. The neighborhood is central without feeling as nightlife-heavy as some areas. Apartments can be expensive, but daily life is easy. For kids, the park is not a bonus. It is part of the home.

Chamberi felt more neighborhood-like to us. Cafes, schools, shops, older buildings, local families. Less polished than Salamanca, less tourist energy than central areas.
