We can choose between Madrid and Barcelona for my spouse’s company office. Barcelona sounds more scenic and international, but Madrid seems better for work, Spanish immersion, central travel, and maybe schools. We have two kids and expect to stay five years. For families who considered both, why Madrid?

We chose Madrid because it felt more practical for long-term family life. Jobs, schools, transport, national connections, and Spanish language immersion were stronger for us. Barcelona is beautiful, but we worried about school/language complexity and summer tourism. Madrid felt less like a dream and more like a place we could actually build routines.
