My wife is Spanish, and we may move to Madrid with our child. I worry that I will become dependent on her for everything: schools, doctors, landlords, banking, government offices, parent chats, and even small calls. In Australia, I handle my life. In Spain, I may become the helpless spouse. Has anyone dealt with this dynamic?

Yes, and it can create resentment fast. The Spanish spouse becomes translator, administrator, school contact, family bridge, and emotional interpreter. The foreign spouse feels embarrassed and dependent. We made a rule: my wife handled high-stakes tasks at first, but I had to handle low-stakes tasks badly by myself. Ordering, pharmacy, simple school messages, neighbor chats. Bad Spanish was better than total dependence.
