My wife and I are considering Madrid with our two children. We know Madrid has a strong LGBTQ scene, but nightlife is different from family life. We want schools and neighborhoods where our family feels normal, not just tolerated. Which areas or school environments felt welcoming?

Madrid felt welcoming socially, but family fit depended more on the school than the neighborhood. Chueca is visible and symbolic, but with kids we cared about school parents, teacher language, birthday parties, and whether our children had to explain our family constantly. We found a school where it was a non-issue. That mattered more than living near rainbow flags.

We live outside Chueca and still feel comfortable. Visit school pickup. You learn more there than from brochures.
