We moved from New York to Madrid because we wanted a slower life. Madrid is beautiful and more relaxed in many ways, but I am still exhausted. School forms, language, work calls, apartment problems, missing friends, and trying to make everything magical for the kids has worn me out. Has anyone moved for a better life and still felt burned out?

Yes. A new country does not automatically reset your nervous system. We arrived expecting Madrid to heal us. Instead, the first months exposed how tired we already were. Once we stopped performing the “dream move” and built boring routines, things improved. Grocery, school, park, sleep, repeat. Peace came from repetition, not from tapas.

This made me feel seen. I was angry at myself for not being happier.

Same. We needed rest, not more weekend trips.
