We are moving to Madrid with two young children and are confused about healthcare. I keep hearing public healthcare is good, but some families use private insurance for faster appointments or English-speaking doctors. We need pediatricians, vaccinations, dental care, and maybe speech therapy. What should we budget and plan for?

Many international families use private insurance at least at first because it reduces language and appointment stress. Public healthcare can be good, but navigating it as a newcomer is another system to learn. We found an English-speaking pediatrician first, then slowly learned the public system. For children, having one trusted doctor in the first month is worth a lot emotionally.
