Salamanca is beautiful, central, safe-feeling, and convenient, but the rent is painful. We have two kids and like walkability, parks, and easy access to shops. But I wonder if we are paying for status when another neighborhood could give us a better family life. Would you choose Salamanca again?

Salamanca is comfortable, but it is not automatically the best family choice. We liked the sidewalks, shops, Retiro access, doctors, and polished feeling. But the apartment was smaller and more expensive than what friends had elsewhere. If your budget is tight, the beauty can become resentment. We stayed one year, then moved to Chamberi and felt more relaxed.

Chamberi felt more lived-in to us. Still central, but less showroom.

If Retiro access is the reason, also look near Retiro itself. Your kids will care about the park more than the postcode.
