We’re trying to figure out how to balance the kind of lifestyle we want with what we’re realistically comfortable spending. We love the idea of being close to the beach, but Manhattan Beach prices are making us wonder whether there are other areas that could give us some of that coastal feel without stretching the budget too far. Silver Lake is appealing for the community and neighborhood atmosphere, but we’re not sure how it will feel compared with the lifestyle we’re used to in Toronto.

I would separate the emotional part from the daily routine. The feeling matters, but the weekday pattern will decide whether the move works. A neighborhood can look perfect online and still fail your real routine if work, school, friends, and errands are scattered. The move became better when we stopped comparing the new place to the old one and started building repeatable routines.
