One thing we didn’t fully appreciate when planning the move is how much traffic could shape our everyday routine. We’re starting to wonder whether living in Koreatown will change how often we see friends, where we run errands, and how willing we are to travel across LA for things we used to do spontaneously.
The city looks incredibly connected on a map, but we’re realizing that distance and actual travel time can be very different things. For anyone who moved to LA and underestimated the impact of traffic, how did it affect your social life and daily routines after the first few months? What would you plan differently before choosing where to live?

People talk about the area like it is one lifestyle. It is not. The exact neighborhood, commute, and school circle change everything. LA can be exciting and lonely at the same time, especially during the first year. Before committing, test the weekday version: school drop-off, grocery routine, commute, doctor access, and evening energy. The first few months were not a fair test. They were setup, loneliness, paperwork, and too many small decisions.

I would separate the emotional part from the daily routine. The feeling matters, but the weekday pattern will decide whether the move works. LA can be exciting and lonely at the same time, especially during the first year. My advice is to rent or stay flexible at first if you do not fully understand the area yet.
