We’re trying to plan the move around more than just housing and lifestyle because we’ll also need to make sure an elderly parent can get consistent access to good doctors. Silver Lake is appealing to us, but we’re not sure whether it makes sense when healthcare access and regular appointments become part of the equation.

We’re finding that choosing an LA neighborhood looks very different when proximity to hospitals, specialists, and reliable medical care matters. For anyone who has moved to LA with an older parent, how did you approach choosing where to live? Representation helped, but it did not automatically create friendship. We still had to show up repeatedly and build community. In LA, the exact commute and parking situation can turn a good apartment into a bad daily life. Before committing, test the weekday version: school drop-off, grocery routine, commute, doctor access, and evening energy.
