We’ve run into a situation where the most convenient neighborhood for the commute isn’t necessarily the one we’d be happy living in. DTLA would make getting to work much easier, but my partner really doesn’t like the area, which has us looking more seriously at Silver Lake and other neighborhoods that might involve a longer commute.

We’re trying to figure out how much weight we should give commute time versus actually enjoying where we live. People talk about the area like it is one lifestyle. It is not. The exact neighborhood, commute, and school circle change everything. LA can be exciting and lonely at the same time, especially during the first year. Also listen to the person in the family who is least excited.
