      We want to live in Lisbon proper but avoid the most tourist-heavy areas. Alvalade and Avenidas Novas keep coming up. We want transit, parks, schools, grocery access, and a neighborhood where kids can have a normal routine. How do these areas feel for families?

      Alvalade feels more residential and normal to me. It has markets, parks, schools, older residents, families, and enough transit. It is not flashy, which is why we like it.

      Avenidas Novas is convenient and central, but some streets feel more business-like. Great for metro access and services, less cozy depending on the block.

      Visit at school pickup time. That tells you more than any neighborhood guide.
