We are moving with two kids and trying to understand healthcare. I hear Portugal has public healthcare, but many expat families also use private insurance or private clinics because of language, speed, or convenience. We need pediatric care, dental care, prescriptions, and possibly therapy services. How did other families set this up?

We use both. Public healthcare exists, but private insurance gave us faster access and more English-speaking options, especially at the beginning. For children, I wanted a pediatrician we could reach quickly and understand clearly. Once your Portuguese improves, options feel wider.

Bring medical histories, vaccination records, prescriptions, and diagnoses. Doctors are good, but they are not mind readers.
