We are relocating to the Lisbon area and feel stuck between Cascais, Oeiras, Parque das Nacoes, Campo de Ourique, and Avenidas Novas. Every area sounds good for different reasons. We are tempted to sign a longer lease before arrival, but I’m worried we’ll choose wrong. Did families rent temporary housing first?

Rent temporary first if you can. Lisbon neighborhoods are not interchangeable. Cascais feels completely different from central Lisbon. Parque das Nacoes is modern and flat. Campo de Ourique is neighborhood-heavy but older. Oeiras is practical. You need to test school commute, grocery routine, noise, hills, and how your kids feel.

This is exactly what surprised us too. The dog adapted faster than the adults, but the housing search became much more limited.

We signed a year lease too quickly because the apartment looked clean and modern. Then school placement changed. That mistake cost us.

Temporary housing is expensive, but buying or renting wrong is more expensive emotionally.
