We are considering Parque das Nacoes because it is flatter, modern, clean, near schools, near the river, and easier with kids. But part of me worries it will feel too corporate or not like Lisbon. We moved abroad to experience a city, not only a convenient apartment district. Did anyone choose Parque das Nacoes and regret missing older neighborhoods?

We chose it for practicality and do not regret it. With kids, flat sidewalks, newer buildings, elevators, parks, river walks, and easier school access matter. Is it the most romantic Lisbon? No. But ordinary days are easier. We visit old Lisbon on weekends instead of fighting it every morning.

I found it too polished. Not bad, just not emotionally what I wanted from Portugal.

The first year, choose function. You can chase charm after your family stops living out of boxes.
