      We arrived in Lisbon three weeks ago, and I feel like every basic task is new. Trash sorting, groceries, school messages, banking, phone setup, hills, apartment repairs, doctor appointments, and learning Portuguese phrases. Nothing is impossible, but together it is exhausting. Does this stage pass?

      Yes. The first month is not real life. It is system shock. You are not only moving house; you are replacing every automatic habit. Where to buy medicine, how to pay, how to speak to the school, how to sort trash, how to get home when a street is too steep for a tired child. Pick five essentials first: school, food, phone, doctor, transport. Everything else can be messy for a while.

      I needed this. We are in week three and I feel weirdly incompetent over things that used to be automatic.

      Month two was better. Month four felt like we lived here. Month one was survival with nicer pastries.
