American family worried Lisbon will be too slow for our teenager

We are considering Lisbon because my spouse can work remotely and we want a calmer life for a few years. Our 15-year-old is not excited. She says Lisbon sounds like a vacation city for parents, not a real life for a teenager. She worries about friends, clubs, school, dating, and feeling stuck because she does not speak Portuguese. Has anyone moved with a teenager who did not want the move?

Our teen was angry for the first three months. Not sad. Angry. We made the mistake of showing him beaches and cafes like that would solve losing friends. It did not. What helped was school friends, football, gym membership, and letting him keep his old identity online without guilt. Lisbon became better when it stopped being our dream and started becoming his routine.
