We thought Lisbon would feel affordable compared with London. But family-sized apartments in good areas near schools are much more expensive than we expected. We are looking at Campo de Ourique, Estrela, Avenidas Novas, Parque das Nacoes, and Cascais/Oeiras. Every decent place either stretches the budget or disappears quickly. Did anyone else feel like the affordable Lisbon story is outdated?

Yes. The Lisbon many people describe online is not the Lisbon families are renting in now. A single person can compromise more. A family needs bedrooms, school commute, safety, storage, maybe elevator, maybe parking, maybe outdoor space. That narrows the market quickly. We stopped comparing Lisbon to old blog posts and started budgeting like a European capital.
