My job may be in north Madrid, and we are looking at Las Tablas, Sanchinarro, Montecarmelo, and Alcobendas. These areas seem newer and practical, but maybe less charming. We have two kids and care about school, commute, groceries, safety, and meeting other international families. Are these good family areas or too residential?

Las Tablas is not postcard Madrid, but it is practical. Newer buildings, families, schools, parking, wider streets, and many professionals. If your work and school are nearby, it can make weekdays much easier. We go into central Madrid on weekends instead of forcing central Madrid into every school morning.

Sanchinarro worked for us with young children. It is not romantic, but parks and routines are easy.

I found north Madrid too quiet. Good for families, yes, but I missed street life. Depends what your spouse needs too.
