Our family has a date on the calendar now: Chicago is behind us by August and Bellevue is next. The reason is simple enough, since my partner’s role is moving and we’d rather all go together, but the part keeping me up is how our kids will adjust.

They’re used to a neighborhood where friends were a short bike ride away and weekends were unplanned. From what I can tell, Bellevue families seem to run on schedules, and I can’t tell whether that makes it easier or harder for a new kid to slot in.

I keep reading about Somerset, Newport Hills and the Crossroads area as family-friendly, but I’d love to hear how it actually feels day to day. Do kids make friends through school, activities, or the neighborhood itself?

If you moved here with children, what helped them settle in the first few months, and what would you do differently? I’m hoping for honest answers rather than the brochure version.
