We’ve settled on Koreatown, Los Angeles, California as our next city, leaving Mumbai, India behind, and this is what’s on my mind. The move makes sense on paper because of loneliness, but the real-life details feel more complicated than the clean relocation advice we keep hearing. We moved for better weather but allergies got worse. I’m trying to understand how this feels after the first few months, not just during a weekend visit or a corporate relocation tour. For families or newcomers who have already been through something similar, what would you do differently? What should we take seriously before making the decision?

I would separate the emotional part from the daily routine. The feeling matters, but the weekday pattern will decide whether the move works. LA can be exciting and lonely at the same time, especially during the first year. Before committing, test the weekday version: school drop-off, grocery routine, commute, doctor access, and evening energy. The best decision we made was choosing ordinary daily ease over the impressive-looking option.
