We are moving from Atlanta, Georgia to Mount Pleasant, Vancouver, British Columbia, and this question has become the thing I keep coming back to. Teenagers do not experience relocation as an upgrade. They experience it as losing their people. Do not underestimate the emotional effect of paying more for less space. The move became better when we stopped comparing the new place to the old one and started building repeatable routines. I would still make the move, but I would prepare with more cash cushion, more patience, and fewer fantasies.
